Sheetfed and web printer GEORGE (Brisbane, CA), a Printing Arts America (PAA) company, intends to close its Abbey Press facility in Oakland, CA, by the end of the summer. GEORGE will support all of PAA’s West Coast customers, while working to increase manufacturing efficiencies and an ERP systems integration.
"During the last 12 months, we have spent $3 million at GEORGE in technologically advanced digital equipment for the prepress, pressroom and finishing departments," noted GEORGE president Coleen Connell. "In addition, during the last year, PAA has invested $2.5 million in our facility in Guadalajara, Mexico."
In a show of commitment to delivering information in a digital environment, GEORGE has developed and trademarked its own paper stock, GeOpaque, which reportedly features an exceptionally smooth surface for improved halftone, line-screen and type quality.
