Self-adhesive labels for digital press

Xeikon (Itasca, IL) has worked closely with self-adhesive label supplier UPM Raflatac to qualify an extensive range of label substrates on its Xeikon 3300 digital press. The qualified substrates represent some of the most commonly utilized conventional label stocks in narrow web label printing. The ability to use conventional stocks provides an advantage in cost savings and effective implementation of digital technology.

Qualified substrates from UPM Raflatac include paper stocks as well as synthetic films, such as clear and white Polypropylene (BOPP), and Polyester (PET) of varying thicknesses. The qualification process, conducted at Xeikon's North American technology center near Chicago, ensures that all the tested substrates will provide perfect print quality and stable printing behavior on the Xeikon 3300.

Premium opaque offset

Soporset Premium Opaque Offset from Soporcel North America (Norwalk, CT) is made from 100% eucalyptus globulus fibers from the parent company's sustainable forests in Portugal (see www.portucelsoporcel.com). Strong sustainability rating for sheetfed inks

Five of Sun Chemical's (Parsippany, NJ) commercial conventional sheetfed inks have earned the highest average index ratings in the National Association of Printing Ink Manufacturers' (NAPIM) bio-renewable content (BRC) certification program. SunLit Diamond, SunPak Diamond, SunLit Intense, SunLit Exact and SunLit Express each received a BRC index of 80, a rating that means Sun Chemical's inks use an average of 80% renewable resources.

The BRC labeling program is an initiative by NAPIM used to evaluate and minimize the environmental impact of printing inks. The BRC index number is a quantifiable value that is calculated to represent the range of bio-renewable content. The program includes a NAPIM registered label that can be applied to the ink container and a comparable design for use by a printer that uses the inks.
