Color inspiration

Wausau Paper's (Wausau, WI) newest print piece, a second edition of “Inspired Color,” illustrates how color inspires and transforms a blank canvas into a lively design. With descriptive words from the pages of a novel, scripts and settings for a blockbuster hit, it demonstrates how creative artists and subject matter experts from many genres use color to enrich their work.

“Inspired Color” reveals how particular color combinations and print techniques can convey the desired emotion of a design. For example, pairing Royal Metallics Majestic Blue with the shimmer of silver ink creates an extravagant introduction to a piece. The contrast generated by printing an image of porcelain pottery on the subtlety textured Royal Linen Charcoal constructs a three-dimensional effect by matching gray and black with two hits of opaque. Leveraging its broad portfolio of colored and textured papers, Wausau Paper illustrates the versatility and potential its papers can produce.

Each section includes artists' commentary, quotes and samples of their color inspired craft.

It offers a multitude of color patterns and combinations that can be formed. Pantone VIEW Colour Planner Winter 2010/2011 showcases eight palettes for use in women's wear, menswear, active wear, cosmetics, lifestyle, industrial design and graphics.

Waterless inks for ecoconscious printers

Van Son Holland Ink Corp.'s (Islandia, NY) Vs4 inks for waterless printing are compatible with all waterless plates and presses. Vs4 inks resist toning and mottle from 63-97°F. Additionally, the Vs4 line is formulated to deliver excellent press stability for quicker drying times, faster setting and lower heat buildup. By reducing wasted paper and volatile organic compounds, printers can contribute to forest and water conservation.

According to John Sammis, vice president, sales and marketing, Van Son, “Our Vs4 line will provide better color saturation, faster makereadies and increased printing temperature capability, while answering the environmental concerns that are so important to printers today.”

Van Son recently announced a price reduction for Vs4 ink. Due to demand and market acceptance of waterless ink, the company reports it has been able to streamline manufacturing and pass the savings along to printers.

“Vs4 ink delivers reliability that saves printers time and money in operational expenses, which is critical in today's economic climate,” adds Joe Bendowski, president, Van Son.
