INTRODUCTION:
A couple of decades back, a small but unusually talented group of academics --- serving our great industry ---- got together --- and --- over the next decade…. hammered-out --- a highly regarded “accreditation process”… for Graphic Communications Programs --- at institutions of higher learning.
What they had recognized was that all graphic communications programs…and their promotions --- were not necessarily…..true…and….were sometimes not offering what our industry needed….and with some frequency….did not in their curriculum offerings--- support a “central mission”….if they had a mission….!
This group of unselfish academics, receiving no pay for their time and efforts --- over the next decade --- recognized there needed to be a standard by which these programs were (I’ll use the word)….”audited”…by a qualified, outside council, with written, upfront “standards” --- for a program’s review.
Today, that council is known as the Accrediting Council for Collegiate Graphic Communications….or….ACCGC.
Your opportunities --- like those of the largest companies in our great industry --- who support ACCGC accredited institutions, include, but are not limited to:
Recruitment of Interns, who are often prepared to develop programs no one at your organization is capable of developing, which also places you in position to observe their (a) work habits, (b) social skills, and (c) be their “first-in-line” --- Recruiter.- Personal introductions to the brightest, hardest-working graduates, and their professors.
- Influence --- through each institution’s “Advisory Committee” --- their academic programs… which your organization --- needs.
SUMMARY:
Relationships seem to have never been more important….. for:
- Introductions to talented, skilled individuals --- your organization needs.
- Opportunities to influence programs --- that can elevate our own organization’s future options….and performance.
Someone in your organization… is…available to visit the closest ACCGC accredited program, and become involved with that program’s graduates, academic offerings, instructors, and Advisory Committee
PS: This may only be a “whisper” --- that a select ACCGC accreditation onsite audit committee --- has been invited to visit a major Chinese Graphic Communications program --- this year.
