LIVING LARGER IN WISCONSIN
Philipp Lithographing Co. is based in Grafton, WI, about 90 miles north of Chicago. The point-of-purchase (POP) specialist recently installed a 57-inch, six-color KBA Rapida 145 press to go with its 81-inch Rapida 205 and 64-inch Rapida 162A.
Peter Buening, President and CEO, says the Rapida 145 fits nicely within the company’s 55,000-sq.-ft. plant. Its maximum sheet size of 41 × 57 inches will accommodate much of the work currently run on the 64-inch press.
Unveiled at drupa 2012, the Rapida 145 has a maximum production speed of 17,000 sph in straight printing. Automation highlights include sidelayfree infeed DriveTronic SIS and DriveTronic SPC direct drives for simultaneous plate changing and the CleanTronic Synchro system for efficient washing of ink rollers, blankets, and impression cylinders parallel to plate changing.
FIRST COMMERCIAL PRINTING, NOW PACKAGING
“H-UV to Transform Packaging,” promises Komori’s On Press no. 77. The flashy magazine showcases a single-lamp solution said to use 75% less power than conventional UV.
Komori’s standard packaging configuration, a six-color Lithrone G40 with coater and H-UV, can print with oil-based conventional inks as well as H-UV inks, for maximum flexibility. H-UV inks and varnishes are said to have a significantly wider color gamut and greater glossiness vs. their conventional counterparts.
ROCK THAT FAST-CURING BOX
Package printing took center stage at IST METZ’s recent UV Days. The three-day event featured a live demo of a multi-functional folded box produced using UV offset printing, coupled with coating and embossing. IST METZ UV systems were used as interdeck and end-of-press dryers for energy-efficient curing. Other highlights included 3D varnishing via UV inkjet as well as digital label printing and LED UV technology on a flexographic printing press.
PRINT 13 COURTS CONVERTERS AND PACKAGE PRINTERS
For the first time, CPP EXPO, the Converting and Package Printing Expo, will be co-located with PRINT 13. Attendees of CPP 2013 and PRINT 13 will gain access to the combined offerings of both events with a full entry pass to all of the exhibits.
“This is ideal for our converting and package printing event, since attendees can see and explore all the very latest in digital, prepress and design technologies and products that are so vital to their customers’ brand marketing strategies,” says Leo Nadolske, President of CPP.
